The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) has declared a nationwide three-day warning strike starting midnight on Friday, October 2, through October 4, 2026.
The action comes in response to unaddressed economic and mental hardship among public service workers and their families.
According to a circular signed by National Secretary Olowoyo Gbenga, the strike was called after the Federal Government failed to respond to key demands submitted to President Bola Tinubu on September 21.
The council stated: “Consequent upon the above, the strike shall start with effect from midnight on Friday, 2nd October, 2026 to Sunday October 4th, 2026.”
The circular also called on public servants in the federal, state and local government services to participate in the strike, stressing that the action was intended to draw attention to the difficulties facing workers across the country.
“In the same vein, all public servants in the services of federal, state and local governments are to join the warning strike because an injury to one is an injury to all, most especially, all workers, their dependants, vulnerable and hapless Nigerians are groaning terribly under the present economic hardship.”
The council further described the situation as increasingly difficult for workers, adding, “The economic and mental hardships are becoming unbearable and frustrating.”
Urging immediate action, the JNPSNC instructed its leaders to mobilize workers without delay for the three-day warning strike.
The strike follows unheeded demands for economic relief, including reducing petrol prices to ₦500 per liter, granting an immediate wage award, and forming a tripartite committee to negotiate a new national minimum wage ahead of 2027.
These demands highlight growing pressure on Nigerian workers facing severe inflation across food, transport, and basic essentials.
The council also called for widespread distribution of the notice and expressed confidence in the strike’s impact.
“Please, disseminate the information!!! Surely, there is victory for us!!!” the circular added.
PerSecondNews reports that the Federal Ministry of Labour has yet to react to the warning strike.
