An act of justice in the underworld has exposed the brutal fractures within criminal networks in Nigeria after bandits executed three of their own local accomplices who were discovered to have killed an abducted boy, Umar Moba, whose ransom had been paid by his parents in Katsina State.
Moba was murdered in cold blood despite his distraught family having already paid millions of naira as ransom to secure his freedom from the gunmen who were aided by their three accomplices in the Jibia Local Government Area, a region long plagued by the shadow of armed gangs,
According to security sources on Wednesday, the bandit had successfully negotiated the boy’s release with his family after receiving the ransom.
To fulfil their promises, the gunmen handed Moba over to three local accomplices—men from the community who had assisted in facilitating the abduction—with strict instructions to transport the child safely back to his family.
Rather than comply with the instructions, the informants, fearing that the boy had recognized them and could blow their cover to local authorities or community members, the three accomplices chose to murder the child and abandoned his body in the dense brush of Jibia before fleeing the scene.
Panic struck Moba’s family when hours passed without his return. Driven by desperation, the relatives re-established contact with the bandit leaders to demand answers.
During discussion, the armed gang insisted the child had been safely transferred to their local liaisons.
But the boy’s parent consistent appeal was said to have made gunmen realize that their local assets had betrayed the deal, the bandits orchestrated a lethal trap.
To lure the three accomplices back into the fold, the bandit gang informed them that a second windfall of ransom money was ready for collection.
Unaware of the bandits plans, the three local informants returned to the gang’s forest hideout and upon arrival, the men were seized, bound, and subjected to a harsh interrogation by the bandit commanders.
Breaking under pressure, the three men confessed to murdering young Moba and revealed the exact location where they had dumped his corpse.
Enraged by the unauthorized murder—and the threat it posed to their lucrative ransom operations—the bandits executed all three accomplices on the spot.
Security personnel were said to havr later retrieved the remains of young Moba from the bush, bringing a agonizing, tragic end to the search for the child.
