A 33-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, has been taken into the police custody after she allegedly killed her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, during a domestic incident at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi State.
As gathered, the incident occurred on September 27, 2026, at about 4:05pm after the Bauchi C-Division Police Station received information about a domestic incident involving the two co-wives, who lived in the same household.
The Bauchi State Police Command said Haruna, the second wife, allegedly struck Adamu, 43, on the forehead with a pestle, causing her to fall unconscious.
According to a statement issued by police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, on Monday, preliminary investigation showed that Haruna allegedly acted while experiencing what the command described as hallucinations before attacking Adamu with the pestle.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, one Hauwa’u Haruna, 33 years old, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, one Jamila Adamu, 43 years old, on the forehead. Consequently, the victim fell unconscious.
The police said Adamu was pronounced dead by a medical doctor, while her remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives attached to C-Division immediately mobilised to the scene. The scene was documented, and the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor. Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy,” Habib added.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Aliyu condoled with the bereaved family and cautioned members of the public against domestic violence.
He also advised families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for members experiencing mental health challenges.
