Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is expected to return to action for Galatasaray when they face Kasımpaşa in the Turkish Süper Lig on October 9, as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.
Reports from Turkish sports daily Fanatik indicate that the expected return date has emerged from Galatasaray’s medical rehabilitation programme for the Nigerian striker.
Osimhen was initially included in Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles squad for the opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. He later withdrew after Galatasaray’s medical team advised that he should remain in Turkey to continue his recovery.
Taiwo Awoniyi was subsequently called into the Nigeria squad as his replacement. Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe said Osimhen’s recovery from the muscle injury had taken longer than initially expected.
Galatasaray previously confirmed that medical examinations showed an advanced-moderate strain involving bleeding in Osimhen’s right adductor, or groin, muscle group. The club said treatment was underway but did not initially provide a specific return date.
The injury occurred during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir on September 4. Osimhen scored before leaving the game in the first half and has subsequently missed matches against Sporting Lisbon, Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
Before the injury, Osimhen had made a strong start to the campaign, recording six goals and two assists in his first four appearances for the Turkish champions.
If his recovery continues as expected, the Kasımpaşa fixture at RAMS Park could mark Osimhen’s return to competitive action before Galatasaray’s next major European assignment.
For Nigeria, his recovery will also be closely followed as the Super Eagles prepare for their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign without the striker for the upcoming international fixtures.
