Nigeria’s Super Eagles have landed in Bissau ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 AFCON qualifier against Guinea-Bissau.
Led by head coach Éric Chelle, the team touched down at Osvaldo Vieira International Airport on Sunday evening following their departure from Uyo.
They face the Djurtus at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in their second Group L fixture, with kick-off scheduled for 5:00 PM (WAT).
Nigeria launched its campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar in Uyo, debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored after Madagascar had taken an early lead.
Guinea-Bissau opened its qualifying run with a 2-0 away victory over Tanzania, courtesy of goals from Franculino and Mama Balde.
PerSecondNews reports that Guinea-Bissau currently lead Group L on goal difference, with Nigeria tied at three points in second place, while Madagascar and co-host Tanzania remain point-less.
The qualification battle is particularly fierce because 2027 co-hosts Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania qualify automatically; as a result, only the highest-ranked non-host team in Groups D, H, and L will secure a spot at the tournament.
Tanzania’s points still count in the table, but they cannot take Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau or Madagascar’s qualifying place.
A victory in Bissau would propel the Super Eagles to the top of Group L on both points and goal difference—giving them six points and a minimum +2 margin.
A draw, however, keeps Guinea-Bissau in first place.
Having secured an essential home win in Uyo, Nigeria sit just one goal behind the group leaders; Tuesday’s clash in Bissau gives them their first direct opportunity to leapfrog the Djurtus and take control of the group’s sole available qualifying spot.
