The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described St. Gregory’s College as a pillar of Nigeria’s education system, commending the institution for its enduring contributions to education, character development and leadership.
The governor said St. Gregory’s College had played a remarkable role in shaping generations of Nigerians, with its alumni distinguishing themselves across the Public Service, business, academia, the professions and other fields of endeavour.
Sanwo-Olu spoke yesterday through the Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, at the Grand Reception and Lifetime Achievement Awards organised by the St. Gregory’s Old Boys’ Association at the Naval Dockyard, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He particularly commended the establishment of the Endowment, Perpetual and Infrastructure Development Fund, saying it is a deliberate and commendable initiative aimed at preserving and strengthening the legacy of St. Gregory’s College for generations to come.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the fund would provide a platform for scholarships, modern infrastructure, innovation, capacity development and educational excellence, thereby helping to sustain the institution’s impact on future generations.
At the ceremony, the Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his exceptional achievements, distinguished service and enduring contributions to society, as well as for bringing honour and distinction to St. Gregory’s College.
The award recognised Agoro’s accomplishments and his commitment to the values of the institution, which the organisers said exemplifies the finest ideals and traditions of a Gregorian.
Other distinguished honourees included the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso; Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu; His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal, CON, Abisogun II, Oniru of Iruland; His Royal Majesty, Oba Mobadenle Obalade Oyekan, the Onilado of Ilado; His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, the Adegboruwa of Igbogbo; Chief Anthony Asuquo, and Dr. Abimbola Ogunkelu.
