Policeman dies after fitness exercise in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the death of a police officer who collapsed shortly after participating in a fitness exercise organised by the command.

Inspector Adamu Isah, who served with the Department of Operations, reportedly collapsed shortly after completing the command’s weekly walkathon exercise.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, disclosed that the officer was pronounced dead at a hospital where he was rushed after collapsing, despite all efforts by medical experts to revive him.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Shaffa, described the deceased as a committed officer whose sudden death had left the command mourning.

Shaffa also highlighted the officer’s involvement in sporting activities, noting that he was a member of the command’s volleyball team and also practised boxing.

According to the commissioner, Isah’s discipline, dedication and enthusiasm for physical activities made him a valued member of the command.

He said the officer’s contributions to police operations would be remembered by his colleagues.

The commissioner assured the bereaved family of the command’s support and urged police personnel to remain strong following the loss.

He prayed for God to give Isah’s relatives the strength to cope with the bereavement and grant the deceased eternal rest.
