The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested and arraigned a woman, identified as Beauty Monday, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her neighbour during a dispute in Abuja.
According to the Police Command, the incident was reported to the Lugbe Police Division on September 6, 2026, by the victim, Gift Amos, who alleged that the suspect attacked her on September 4 following an argument between the two neighbours.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the police explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over the use of a shared compound space.
The police disclosed that the victim had moved a pot of boiling water belonging to the suspect from a stove to the section of the compound allocated to her, an action that reportedly angered the suspect.
The FCT Police Command stated that Monday subsequently removed the pot from the stove and poured the boiling water on the victim’s back, causing severe burns and grievous bodily harm.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for the injuries sustained during the attack.
The Command further disclosed that the suspect has been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. The case has been adjourned until September 16, 2026, for hearing.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint when resolving disputes.
He also cautioned against acts of self-help and violence, stressing the need for lawful and peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms.
The police further called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
