A 37-year-old man, Tolulope Agboola, has appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing three pairs of trousers valued at N76,000 from a supermarket.
Agboola was accused of stealing two pairs of jogger trousers and a pair of jeans belonging to Nao Supermarket, with the alleged act captured by the store’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
Prosecuting the case on Thursday, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi told the court that the incident occurred around 7pm on September 11 at the supermarket in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to the prosecutor, two of the jogger trousers were valued at N60,000, while the pair of jeans was worth N16,000.
Oriyomi said footage from the supermarket’s CCTV system allegedly helped to identify and apprehend Agboola, who has no fixed address.
He said the alleged offence contravened Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Agboola pleaded not guilty to the charge, while his counsel, Ogunrinde Abiola, applied for bail and assured the court that the defendant would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adosun granted him bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until October 30 for further hearing.
