The police in Oyo State has nabbed a teenager, Usman Dauda, over allegations of contravening the law through the defilement of a three-year-old girl.
Dauda was arrested after the police swung into action following a report of the incident, the suspect, whisked away by the operatives who visited the scene.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Alayande, disclosed that the alleged lawbreaker forcefully took the girl into his apartment in Saki area and subsequently committed the offence.
Alayande held that the family of the minor had sought for her after failing to know of her whereabout, adding that a search led to her recovery at a roadside in a state of distress, with preliminary inquiries said to have showed that the accused committed the act.
A statement from the security agency on Thursday discloses that the girl was rushed to a medical facility in the area and is receiving psychotherapeutic care.
The police stated that it remains committed to protecting the Child Rights Act, adding that the protection guidelines, privacy and identity of the survivor and her family would remain concealed during the investigation progress.
It added that the case has been transferred to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan.
