Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes factors beyond transfer fees and wages may explain why Premier League clubs have yet to sign Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria international has been repeatedly linked with Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, but none of the clubs has completed a deal for the striker.
Speaking to GOAL, Cole acknowledged Osimhen’s goalscoring ability and said the 27-year-old has the qualities to make an impact in the Premier League. However, he noted that several considerations can influence a major transfer beyond the financial terms.
Cole pointed to Osimhen’s record in front of goal, noting that the striker has consistently produced in both Italy and Turkey.
The former United forward said clubs consider various factors when recruiting players from overseas, meaning a transfer cannot always be explained simply by the size of the salary or transfer fee.
Osimhen started his European career with Wolfsburg before gaining greater attention during a loan spell at Belgian club Charleroi. His performances earned him a move to Lille, after which he joined Napoli.
At Napoli, Osimhen played a key role in the club’s Serie A title-winning campaign during the 2022/23 season. He scored 31 goals that season and later continued his goalscoring form after moving to Galatasaray.
The Nigerian striker has since scored 65 goals in 78 appearances for the Turkish club, maintaining his reputation as one of Europe’s prolific forwards.
His performances have continued to attract attention in England, with Manchester United among the clubs frequently associated with him.
Former United defender Patrice Evra recently backed the club’s interest in Osimhen, identifying the Nigerian as the type of striker he believes United need.
Former France international Louis Saha has also encouraged United to pursue Osimhen, pointing to his goalscoring record, Champions League experience and success with both Napoli and Galatasaray.

Despite the support from former United players, the club did not move for Osimhen and instead signed Benjamin Sesko as its main out-and-out striker.
Osimhen remains contracted to Galatasaray, meaning any Premier League club seeking his signature would need to negotiate a deal with the Turkish side or meet the applicable terms of his contract.
For now, the Nigeria international remains in Turkey, while interest from Premier League clubs could emerge again when future transfer windows open.
