The Ondo State House of Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of N775.518bn for the 2026 fiscal year, following the consideration of the proposal submitted by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The approval followed the consideration of the revised appropriation proposal by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, which reviewed the government’s request and presented its findings to the lawmakers for consideration.
The bill was passed on Friday in Akure after the committee submitted its report to the Assembly. Aiyedatiwa had, on September 9, presented a revised 2026 Appropriation Bill of N769.384bn, increasing the state’s original budget of N524.411bn.
The Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, said the revised spending plan was designed to accelerate development across various sectors of the state.
Ogunmolasuyi said the additional funds would support ongoing projects while enabling the government to respond to emerging developmental needs.
He added that the revised proposal was consistent with best practices in fund utilisation and budget implementation.
The lawmaker, however, faulted the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service for failing to work effectively with other government agencies towards achieving the revenue target contained in the 2026 budget.
He urged the government to take necessary measures to increase internally generated revenue and ensure that the state could adequately fund the administration’s OUR EASE agenda.
The House Leader, Olatunji Oshati, moved the motion for the passage of the bill, which was seconded by Abayomi Akinruntan.
The Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, commended the finance committee for its work, saying the appropriation would support infrastructure and improve residents’ welfare.
Meanwhile, the Assembly referred a bill seeking to raise the retirement age and improve the remuneration of magistrates and Grade A Customary Court presidents to 65 years to its Committee on Judiciary and Public Petitions.
The bill seeking to establish the Rufus Giwa University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Owo, was also referred to the Committees on Tertiary Institutions and Education, and Science and Technology for further scrutiny.
