OFFICIAL: Chelsea complete £40m deal for Atalanta teenager Ahanor

Chelsea have completed the signing of teenage defender Honest Ahanor from Serie A club Atalanta in a deal reportedly worth around £40 million.

The 18-year-old has agreed to join the Blues, although the transfer will not formally take effect until next summer. He is expected to spend the upcoming campaign on loan in the Premier League.

Ahanor set for Premier League experience

Ahanor is expected to continue his development in England with a loan move to Crystal Palace.

The arrangement would give the teenager an opportunity to gain regular Premier League experience before becoming officially registered as a Chelsea player next summer.

Chelsea believe the move can accelerate Ahanor’s development, with the defender having already attracted significant attention during his time in Italy.

The decision to loan him out also reflects the competition for places in Chelsea’s defensive ranks, with the club having several senior options available.

Chelsea continue busy transfer activity

The Ahanor deal adds to an increasingly active period for Chelsea, who are also working on several other moves before the transfer window closes.

The Blues are attempting to strengthen their midfield amid uncertainty surrounding Enzo Fernandez’s future.

Manchester City remain interested in the Argentina international, although a formal agreement between the clubs has yet to be reached.

Chelsea have also seen an opening bid for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara rejected as they consider potential replacements.

Meanwhile, midfielder Shim Mheuka is set to leave Stamford Bridge temporarily, with Scottish club Celtic closing in on a loan agreement.
