The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osun State Command, has arrested a 60-year-old man, Taliatu Olunlade, and his 25-year-old son, Wasiu, over the alleged theft and sale of electrical cables in Iwo.
The duo were allegedly involved in the removal of the cables in stages before selling them to a scrap dealer, with a third suspect, 22-year-old Ganiyu Ayomide, also arrested in connection with the alleged offence.
The suspects were arrested on Friday, September 4, 2026, by NSCDC personnel attached to the Agbona Village Division in Iwo, Osun State, following an investigation into missing cables kept in the community.
The cables had reportedly been removed temporarily in November 2025 to allow road construction work to proceed and were stored near Olunlade’s residence after an arrangement involving the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and community leaders.
According to the NSCDC Osun State Commandant, Toma Mathew Enya, the cables subsequently started disappearing from the storage location, prompting the command to launch an investigation.
Enya disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Osogbo, saying preliminary findings indicated that the suspects allegedly sold the stolen materials to a scrap dealer identified as Aminu, popularly known as “Bollar.”
The commandant said the suspects allegedly confessed to selling the cables to Aminu on two occasions for a combined sum of N100,000, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest the alleged receiver, who is currently at large.
Enya said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations, stressing that the command would continue to strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering to protect critical national assets.
He warned against vandalism, theft and illegal trading in government infrastructure, urging residents to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing such activities.
