NGX introduces whatsapp access for public offers

The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) has introduced WhatsApp access to its NGX Invest platform, allowing investors to begin subscribing to eligible public offers through the messaging platform.

The new channel enables investors to initiate the subscription process by sending “Invest” to the official NGX Invest WhatsApp number, following the prompts to view available offers and completing the required steps.

In a statement published on its website on Wednesday, the group said investors would select a stockbroker through whom their applications would be processed, ensuring that brokers remain an integral part of the investment process.

The initiative expands the distribution ecosystem of NGX Invest, which connects issuers with investors through more than 100 channels, including stockbrokers, banks, fintech companies, mobile operators and other financial institutions through application programming interface (API) connectivity.

According to the group, integrating WhatsApp into NGX Invest is designed to reduce barriers to participation in the capital market by bringing primary-market investment opportunities closer to investors through a platform they already use.

The development also provides issuers with an additional channel to reach a wider pool of potential investors and support more efficient capital raising through the Nigerian capital market.

NGX Group said the initiative forms part of its broader strategy of deploying technology, partnerships and open distribution infrastructure to increase participation in the capital market.

The group, however, stressed the importance of security, noting that while WhatsApp serves as the interface through which investors access the service, actual subscriptions are processed through NGX Invest’s secure and regulated infrastructure.

It urged investors to interact only with the official NGX Invest WhatsApp number and warned them against sharing passwords, personal identification numbers (PINs), one-time passwords (OTPs) or other sensitive credentials with third parties.

The group said the integration of WhatsApp reflects the growing role of digital channels in expanding access to Nigeria’s capital market, while maintaining the regulatory safeguards required for participation in public offers.
