A motorist has escaped from becoming a casualty after allegely driving recklessly and caused a fire incident at a gas station in Abuja.
The FCT Command of the Federal Fire Service confirmed the incident relaying that its operatives rushed at the scene and put off the inferno and restored calm in the area, in what could have resulted in a devastating mishap.
The agency held that the incident which happened in
Liberty Junction, Kubwa area, on Sunday caused a large blast which shook nearby buildings, uprooted signposts and overturned a traffic warden’s booth around Liberty Junction.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the incident happened at about 6:15am, when a motorist driving against traffic allegedly crashed into a gas outlet where gas cylinders were kept, further responding than firefighters arrived at the scene around 6:30 a.m and contained the fire.
Additional fire service water tankers and operatives of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were also reported to have joined the emergency response investigation commenced on the occurrence.
Residents of surrounding areas, including Dantata Estate, said that the explosion was loud enough to wake people from their sleep, with some reporting that their buildings shook.
No causalities as being officially confirmed as of press time.
