A resident has been injured in a machete attack linked to a land dispute in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State, with the police arresting one of the suspected attackers.
The suspect, Agboola Emmanuel, was arrested in connection with the alleged attack on the victim, who was reportedly assaulted following a disagreement over a disputed farmland.
According to the police, Emmanuel and two other suspects, identified as Dare Agboola and another man whose identity was not disclosed, allegedly used machetes to attack the victim after the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation.
The incident reportedly occurred around noon on September 11, 2026, at a farmland located between Eruwa and Ayete, in Abule Oba-Gboru Village through Okanlawon Village, where the suspects were allegedly engaged in charcoal production.
The victim had reportedly gone to the farmland when he encountered the three men, leading to an argument that later degenerated into violence.
The incident was reported to the police on September 14 by a passerby who intervened, rescued the victim and ensured that he received medical attention, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
Following the report, detectives from the Eruwa Divisional Police Headquarters visited the scene and commenced an investigation, which led to Emmanuel’s arrest.
The police said Emmanuel allegedly admitted his involvement during interrogation and provided information that assisted investigators in identifying the other two suspects, who are currently being sought.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, urged residents involved in land disputes to seek redress through the courts and other lawful channels.
He warned against resorting to violence over civil disputes, stressing the need for residents to pursue peaceful and legal means of resolving disagreements.
