A government agency in Lagos State closed twelve businesses on Tuesday for not following environmental laws.
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, called LASEPA, sealed the businesses in different parts of Lagos including Ogba, Idimu-Ikota, Ejigbo, Igando and other areas.
LASEPA said the businesses had been warned many times to fix their problems and follow the rules.
The agency even gave them many chances to do the right thing, but the businesses refused to comply.
So the agency decided to seal them shut.
LASEPA said the businesses had violated environmental regulations and did not do what the agency asked them to do.
The agency said this action follows orders from the Lagos State Government to make sure everyone follows environmental laws, protect people’s health and create a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
The businesses that were sealed are:
Thrillz Lounge in Ogba was sealed because of excessive noise and not following LASEPA’s orders.
Feixiang Plastic along LASU-Ojo Road was sealed for not following the agency’s directives.
Marvel Hotel and Suites in Igando was sealed for noise pollution.
Keviz Hotel and Suites on LASU-Iba Road was sealed for blocking the agency’s work.
DSN Hotel and Suites was sealed for not following orders.
Rudaj Vegetable Oil was sealed for not complying. Celestial Church of Christ was sealed for loud noise.
Limas was sealed for not following the rules.
Nico Hotel and Suites was sealed for non-compliance.
Ten Kobo Night Club was sealed for making too much noise.
Master Furniture was sealed for not following environmental rules.
Nikky’s Executive Bar and Lounge was sealed for not complying with the regulations.
The head of LASEPA said the agency will continue to check businesses and make sure they follow environmental rules.
He said environmental protection is everyone’s job.
He said LASEPA will keep taking action against anyone whose business hurts the environment or people’s health.
He asked business owners, people who run facilities, churches, and residents to follow environmental rules, get the necessary permits and work with LASEPA to make Lagos cleaner and healthier.
