Lamine Yamal Reveals What El Clásico Means to La Masia Players
Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal says he is eager to face Real Madrid again in El Clásico, describing the rivalry as an experience that carries a special meaning for players developed at La Masia.
Yamal made the comments during an interview with Movistar on Friday, explaining that Barcelona academy graduates grow up understanding the significance of matches against their biggest domestic rivals.
“I want to face Real Madrid in El Clásico. I’d really love that,” Yamal said.
The Barcelona star explained that the rivalry feels different for players who have spent their formative years at La Masia because they become familiar with its intensity from an early age.
Yamal also recalled watching Marcus Rashford feature in his first Clásico and suggested that the Manchester United academy graduate initially needed time to understand the significance of the fixture.
He said Rashford appeared to show a different level of intensity in the return meeting, when he scored from a free kick.
For Yamal, that understanding is something La Masia players develop before they even play their first Clásico.
“When you come from La Masia, from your very first Clásico, you already know what this match means,” he said.
Yamal will have another opportunity to experience the rivalry in the 2026/27 season. Barcelona are scheduled to host Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou on October 25 in the 10th round of LaLiga.
The fixture will be the first meeting between the Spanish giants in the new league campaign, with Yamal now looking forward to another chance to take part in one of football’s biggest rivalries.
