The Lagos State Police Command has commenced disciplinary action against an inspector, identified as Osumah Frank, over remarks he made in a viral video while travelling in a public transport vehicle.
The video, which circulated on social media, showed Frank making comments about the 2027 presidential election and the political prospects of Peter Obi, President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Frank was heard questioning Obi’s chances of winning the presidency and discussing the possibility of a contest involving the three politicians.
The inspector further suggested that the contest could be narrowed to Atiku and Tinubu, while questioning who would give an “Igbo man” the opportunity to lead the country.
“Even if he win, Oga go take deal with am. All the vote they go vote for am go useless. Obi na small boy until he reach 80yrs, 90yrs eheenn. Atiku vs Tinubu, keep Obi out of the matter. Who will give Igbo man chance?” he said in Pidgin.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the command had identified the officer as Inspector Osumah Frank and commenced disciplinary action against him in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
Condemning the remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, said the statements were made in Frank’s personal capacity and did not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
Fatai stressed that wearing the police uniform came with the responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force, adding that the command would not condone conduct capable of bringing the Police Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence.
He also reiterated that all personnel were expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity.
