SHRI Sudhakar Dalela, a senior official of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said that India secured more than 50 practical outcomes across four priority areas during its 2026 BRICS Chairship,
Dalela, who is the Secretary of Economic Relations in the MEA, disclosed this at a special news conference on the outcome of the 18th BRICS Summit on Saturday in New Delhi.
Dalela said the outcomes were developed under the four pillars of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability, with emphasis on practical, development oriented and people centred initiatives.
He said India had organised more than 350 meetings, both physical and virtual, across thematic clusters, ministerial meetings, working groups, business sessions and people focused activities during its chairship.
He said the initiatives focused on food and health security, including the BRICS Centre for Excellence in Agroecology, BRICS Network on Physical Agriculture and BRICS Mission for Healthy Lifestyle.
He also explained that the cooperation on mental wellness and disaster risk reduction management was also an area of prioritity.
Under innovation, Dalela said BRICS countries advanced cooperation in science, research, technology and entrepreneurship, including the BRICS Science and Research Repository, Startup Innovation Fund and Incubator Network.
He said the cooperation pillar produced initiatives including the BRICS MSME Cooperation Portal, cooperation on global value chains and the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework.
On sustainability, he said BRICS countries advanced cooperation on smart grids, energy storage, climate resilient urban infrastructure, sustainable urban mobility and climate resilient agriculture.
Dalela also noted that the initiatives reflected India’s effort to make BRICS more practical, solution oriented and responsive to the needs of people.
“The true measure of a chairship is not simply the number of meetings that are held. It is the quality of participation, the ability to build consensus and the outcomes that are created,” he said.
He said the New Delhi Declaration and more than 50 practical outcomes provided a strong foundation for the next phase of BRICS cooperation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that BRICS is a group of major emerging economies that cooperate on economic, political, and development issues.
The name originally stood for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
It has since expanded. As of 2026, BRICS includes 11 full members:
Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Iran.
Others are, Egypt, Ethiopia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and
