I’ll resign if Tinubu loses FCT, Rivers – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in the FCT and Rivers State.

Wike said he would take responsibility for the electoral outcome in the two areas, insisting that he must be able to deliver political support for the President within his sphere of influence.

The FCT minister made the declaration while speaking during an engagement with the leadership and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja on Wednesday.

The former Rivers governor said he would formally announce his resignation on January 17, 2027, if Tinubu fails to win both the FCT and Rivers State.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” he said.

“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT,” he added.

The FCT minister also disclosed that a multi-party coalition was being formed in the FCT to support candidates across various elective positions in the 2027 elections.

He said the coalition would operate across party lines and had already identified candidates it would support for the Presidency, Senate and House of Representatives.

“For the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu! For the Senate, Philip Aduda is a man of the people, unlike those who only appear on television. The two House of Representatives candidates we are supporting are also here. They are former Area Council chairmen,” Wike said.

According to the former governor, the coalition would adopt a unified approach to the elections in the FCT to deliver the expected results.

“In the FCT, we are running a unified coalition across parties to deliver results,” he said.

Wike added that his political commitment to the President remained firm, describing the engagement as the final affirmation of the agreement reached over the 2027 elections.

“If I cannot deliver FCT as Minister, then I am not qualified to hold this office. We have a firm agreement, and today is the final affirmation,” he said.
