The Federal Government has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks for Nigerian schools for the 2026-2028 academic session.
The Federal Ministry of Education announced this in a statement on Monday by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, after the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise.
The list covers textbooks for Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1 and SSS 1. Each approved book now has a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code that carries the title, author, publisher and year of publication.
The ministry says the codes will make it easier to identify and monitor approved books and hold people accountable.
The exercise was carried out under Education Minister Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State Prof Suwaiba Said Ahmad, with the final list approved by Alausa.
The ministry said the tracking codes added to the time needed to finish and check the list, but the extra step was needed to improve control of approved books and make selection, buying and use more open.
The ranking will be done in phases.
The second phase will cover Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SSS 2, and the same tracking measures will apply.
The ministry urged publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies and other stakeholders to stick to the approved list when choosing and buying books for the affected classes.
It said the move is meant to make sure pupils and teachers get quality, relevant materials that match the curriculum, while making textbook supply more transparent.
The full list, with the tracking code for each title, is available on the ministry’s designated platform.
