THE Correspondents chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council has elected new executives to pilot affairs of the chapel for the next three years.
The newly elected executives were inaugurated on Wednesday at the Chapels secretariat, along Nawarudeen road in Abeokuta.
Mrs Yetunde Fatungase, who is a Senior editor with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and the agency Ogun State Correspondent emerged the first female Chairman of Chapel.
Other members of the new executives are: Adegbenro Oladele, Secretary, Bankole Taiwo, Vice-Chairman, Gift Oba Treasurer, Lauretta Fagbohun, Financial Secretary and Olayinka Kolawole as the Assistant Secretary.
The Chairman of NUJ, Ogun State Council, Wale Olanrewaju, congratulated the new executives and call for unity among members of the chapel.
Olanrewaju urged the new leadership to work towards improving members welfare and ensure regular payment of check-off dues.
He stressed the importance of cooperation and collective responsibility in strengthening the chapel and advance interest of journalists.
Fatungase, in her acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in her, pledging to lead with fairness, transparency, humility and respect for all members.
She acknowledged that the chapel, like every human organisation has its challenges, including members, who might have felt aggrieved or dissatisfied on certain issues.
Fatungase assured members that genuine grievances would be given constructive avenues for expression and resolution.
“We may not always agree on every issue, but we can disagree without bitterness, personal attack or division.
“Our differences should challenge us to improve the association, rather than tearing it apart,”she said.
Fatungase appealed to members to give peace, dialogue and understanding a chance, with the promise that the administration would communicate openly, listen to members and carried them along in decision affecting the chapel.
She appealed for members support, cooperation and constructive criticism, stressing that strength of the chapel lies in collective commitment of its members.
She urged members to put aside bitterness and suspicion, rather focus on professionalism, integrity, truth and service to the society.
“There is room for everyone at the table, and together, through mutual respect and genuine dialogue, we can move this association forward,”Fatungase said.
