The Nigerian U-20 women’s team, Falconets, would continue their involvement in the ongoing age-grade World Cup competition, Poland 2026, having secured a place in the round of 16 stage for a clash against England.
The Falconets are eligible to face England after finishing in second position in their Group F which had table toppers, Spain, China and New Caledonia, and would now face the British side who also qualified Group B, both slides now looking to navigate through to the competition’s last eight stage.
Nigeria began the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Spain but rallied back with a spirited 0-0 draw with China and on Sunday at the Stadion Miejski, trounced already eliminated New Caledonia 10-1, their biggest win in rhe competition, to advance runners up in the group on four points, ahead of China, who finished with same points but with an inferior goal difference of four.
The green and white jerseyed women’s massacring win was aided by Winner David and Ramotalahi Kareem, each registering a hat-trick, Rebecca Adegbemile, Seimeyeha Akekoromowei, Tosin Rafiu getting other goals to compete the drubbing.
England, themselves, finished with four points from their group after a closely contested 1-1 draw with Canada, 5-1 mauling over Tanzania and a reverse 1-2 loss to Brazil.
Should Nigeria edge past the young Lionesses in the September 17 tie to be held in Bielsko Biala, they would play either hosts, Poland or Colombia in the quarter final for a place in the semifinal for the second time in the competition’s history.
