The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has commissioned a new model primary school at Utu Nsekhe/Utu Ikot Eboro in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state.
The project is part of the state government’s ongoing project delivery programme aimed at improving infrastructure and access to basic services across the 31 local government areas.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony yesterday, the governor said the project demonstrated the administration’s commitment to its ARISE Agenda and the equitable distribution of development projects across the state.
Eno, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Enoidem, said the administration had also embarked on road construction and other infrastructure projects across the local government areas as part of its development programme.
He described the newly commissioned school as another indication of the administration’s investment in education and grassroots infrastructure.
The Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Council, Gideon Uwa, commended the state government for the projects being executed in the area, saying the local government had benefited from several interventions under the Eno administration.
Uwa said a road project was commissioned in the area a few days earlier, while another project was expected to be inaugurated in the coming days.
He said, “We had one project commissioned just a few days ago, today we are here to commission another landmark project, and in a few days, we will commission yet another one.”
The council chairman also stressed the importance of education to the development of the area, saying the new facility would provide a better learning environment for children.
“When you give the people education, you have given them all indices of human development. Through this school, you have given us infrastructure, and the future of the children of Etim Ekpo is secured,” Uwa said.
The Commissioner for Education, Ubong Umoh, said the school was constructed from the foundation according to specifications set by the state government.
According to him, the construction approach was part of the government’s effort to provide standard educational infrastructure across the state.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr Ekerette Ekanem, described the facility as one of the notable model primary schools constructed by the administration across the 31 local government areas.
