Bose Ogulu, mother and manager of Afrobeats star Burna Boy, has revealed that she sometimes takes away her son’s phone when his Instagram Live sessions go too far.
Ogulu made the disclosure while speaking with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels Television, where she discussed Burna Boy’s personality, public image and his occasional controversial moments online.
According to her, managing the Grammy-winning singer is not about trying to remove the traits that make him unique. Instead, she has learnt to give him room to express himself while stepping in when necessary.
Ogulu explained that there is a clear difference between her own social media posts and those made by her son, saying artists such as Burna Boy have complex personalities that should be handled carefully.
She likened his personality to a tapestry, warning that pulling too hard at one part could affect the entire picture.
‘The same emotion makes people love him’
Ogulu said some of the qualities behind Burna Boy’s more controversial behaviour are also connected to the characteristics that have made him popular with fans.
She stressed that allowing him to remain himself was important because the same emotions that can sometimes lead to controversy also contribute to the qualities audiences admire.
However, she revealed that there are moments when she has to intervene, particularly during his Instagram Live broadcasts.
Ogulu said she usually takes his phone from him whenever she feels he has become too unrestrained during a live session.
Burna Boy has developed a strong presence on social media, with his Instagram Live appearances regularly attracting attention because of his interactions with fans, comments and spontaneous moments.
His mother’s revelation offers a glimpse into how she balances managing his career with allowing the singer to maintain the outspoken personality that has become part of his public image.
