Bandits have killed a resident and abducted at least 40 women during a prolonged attack on a community in Zamfara State.
The attackers reportedly spent more than four hours in the area, moving through the community and taking residents away while those who attempted to resist were attacked and severely injured.
It was gathered on Monday that the incident occurred yesterday afternoon in Yargada community, Magami District, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
A security source aware of the incident disclosed the development to newsmen while citing information from local sources who witnessed the attack.
According to the account, the bandits also set six vehicles ablaze and broke into several shops during the operation, resulting in significant damage to property.
Residents reportedly alerted security authorities and government representatives as the attack unfolded.
However, local accounts claimed that security personnel did not arrive while the bandits remained in the community.
Meanwhile, the incident has renewed concerns about the vulnerability of rural communities in Zamfara to armed attacks and mass abductions.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Zamfara police or government confirming the number of abducted persons, the reported killing or the alleged delay in the arrival of security personnel.
