The Nigerian Army has arrested 11 suspected terrorists and collaborators as part of efforts to curb banditary and other terrorism acts in Borno State and it’s environs.
Troops of the military nabbed the arrestees, eight of the said to be collaborators while three of them, terrorists, the enforcement carried out following an intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted checks.
The Tuesday held operation carried out by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Sector 3 deployed at strategic points around Monguno town began at about 6:30 a.m on Saturday in Monguno Local Government Area, the troops and intelligence sources consequently positioned at entry and exit routes to monitor movements and identify persons of interest.
The operation focused on people believed to be acting as collaborators, couriers, spies or providing other forms of support to insurgents.
According to the source, the suspects and materials recovered during the operation had been taken to the headquarters of Sector 3 for further investigation.
He added that the military are expected to determine the extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement and take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation.
Moreover, the source said the operation has not ended, with troops continuing to act on intelligence to locate other individuals who may be connected to terrorist support structures in the area.
Further details are expected as investigations into those arrested continue and security forces assess additional intelligence gathered during the operation.
