Parents and residents of Mussa and Lassa in Borno State’s Askira/Uba LGA have given the Federal Government a six-day ultimatum to rescue their abducted schoolchildren.
Staging a protest in Maiduguri on Sunday, the families vowed to storm the Presidential Villa in Abuja if the victims are not released before the deadline.
Shuaibu Umaru, Chairman of the Mussa Parents of Abductees, decried the perceived double standard in security operations, contrasting the quick rescue of abducted children in Oyo State with the prolonged captivity of Borno pupils.
The protesters demanded immediate intervention from President Bola Tinubu, insisting the administration must exhaust all available options to secure the children’s freedom.
Supporting the families, the lawmaker representing Askira/Uba and Hawul Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Midala Balami, noted that the schoolchildren have remained in captivity since May 15, 2026.
He urged both the Federal and Borno State governments to deploy all available resources for their rescue, warning that the traumatized families could no longer endure the agony of prolonged inaction.
PerSecondNews recalls that on the inability to immediately rescue the abducted Borno schoolchildren, the Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, highlighted a major tactical dilemma faced by security forces.
He said the insurgents/kidnappers had threatened to execute the abductees if military troops advanced into their hideouts.
The Minister explained that while the military knows the terrain and has the capacity to strike, pushing forward aggressively risks collateral damage and the loss of innocent lives.
