We stand with you always, Catholic men tell Cardinal Onaiyekan

The National President of the Catholic Men Organisation (CMO), Prince Faith Uche Iwuorisha, has assured the Emeritus Anglican Bishop, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, of the support of the men’s organisational at all times, particularly with respect to his wise counsel of the political leadership.

Prince Iwuorisha stated this Friday, after leading the CMO executive members on a solidarity visit to Cardinal Onaiyekan, in Abuja, following reactions to comments made by Catholic Bishops of Nigeria.

He said, “We stand with you in firm solidarity, bound by deep respect for your unwavering moral courage and tireless devotion to the truth. When you raised your voice to address the press on the state of our nation, you did so not out of malice, but out of a profound love for the people and a sacred duty to justice.

“In a climate where so many choose the comfort of silence, you chose to be a voice for the voiceless, shining a light on the hard realities facing our Country. It is deeply unfortunate that those who benefit from the status quo and their agents have chosen to launch unjust attack against you and the Church.

“The Church has historically stood as a conscience to the state, and no amount of intimidation, political rhetoric or personal attacks can silence that calling. Your Eminence, your courage reminds us that true leadership requires standing firm, even when the wind blows hardest.”

Cardinal Onaiyekan, during the visit, expressed worries that a simple advice to the government on how things ought to go has generated so much heat and called on Nigerians to participate actively in politics.
