“I think it’s going to end pretty soon. I don’t think they can go much longer,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, however, dismissed Washington’s approach as “theater diplomacy”, accusing the US of alternating between military threats and calls for negotiations. “Acknowledge the facts and fulfill your commitments. We don’t need more theater,” he wrote on X.
Meanwhile, an Iranian parliamentary committee is reviewing a preliminary bill that would prohibit US, Israeli and other vessels designated as “hostile” from crossing the Strait of Hormuz, Fars news agency reported, citing a lawmaker. Violations could attract fines of up to 20% of a ship’s cargo value.
Tensions also escalated elsewhere in the region after a Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia’s southern Najran province wounded 11 civilians, including a four-year-old child, Reuters reported. Saudi Arabia warned that coordinated attacks by the Houthis and Iran-backed Iraqi militias could be imminent.
