US-Iran War Live Updates: Iran and Oman are closing in on an agreement for a temporary shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz that could give Tehran control over vessels entering the Gulf and oversight of outbound traffic.
However, the deal by itself will not fully reopen the critical energy corridor, where commercial traffic remains severely restricted. Iran says normal shipping will resume only if the US meets its wider conditions, including halting military action, lifting sanctions and paying compensation for war damage.
The Revolutionary Guard has also insisted that reopening the strait is not tied to the Oman negotiations.
Meanwhile, firefighters extinguished a blaze at a Saudi Aramco facility in Jizan, weeks after a Houthi attack forced the shutdown of its 400,000-barrel-per-day refinery.
