President Donald Trump blamed Minnesota for cyberattacks on more than 30 water facilities during a Friday Cabinet meeting at Camp David, despite law enforcement assessments suggesting Iranian involvement.
“I think I blame it on Minnesota because they’re grossly incompetent,” Trump said, and added, “I would blame it on Minnesota and the governor, the corrupt governor of Minnesota.”
Critics viewed Trump’s remarks as politically motivated retaliation against a state that rejected him and a governor who called him “weird.”
Journalist Aaron Ruparsaid, “Just incredible to watch the US president take Iran’s side when my state’s water systems are under cyberattack.”
Political strategist Sawyer Hackett noted, “His own FBI assessed it was Iran.” Adding, “They also said they attacked multiple states.”
Other observers expressed concern that Trump is treating Democratic-leaning states as greater threats than foreign adversaries, with one commentator warning, “Every state that didn’t vote for him is now in danger.”
