President Donald Trump is facing ridicule after repeatedly asking a woman to compare his performance with previous presidents during an Oval Office event. The exchange unfolded while Trump signed an executive order establishing the Presidential Military Spouse Commission on August 3. With several women standing behind him, the president turned toward one attendee and sought reassurance about his administration’s response to military families.

Critics quickly accused the president of fishing for praise, while another clip from the same event fueled separate commentary about his speech. Neither video, however, offers a legitimate basis for diagnosing Trump’s physical or cognitive health.
According to a clip going around on X, Trump paused during the Oval Office ceremony to ask one of the women behind him how his response compared with those of past presidents. “I have one question: how do I compare in terms of response with other presidents of the past?” Trump asked.
“No comparison, sir,” the woman answered.
Trump then pressed her to clarify whether she intended that comparison as praise. “Is it good or bad?” he asked.
“It’s good, actually it’s very good,” she responded.
“We do okay?” Trump continued.
“We do great,” the woman assured him.
Trump then brought former President Joe Biden into the conversation, asking, “A little more than sleepy Joe.”
The woman appeared to chuckle uncomfortably before replying, “100%.”
Trump has frequently compared his administration with Biden’s and commonly refers to his predecessor as “Sleepy Joe.”
Critics Accuse Trump Of Making His Guest Uncomfortable
The interaction quickly circulated on X, where one account characterized it as an embarrassing attempt by Trump to obtain validation from an attendee.
“EMBARRASSING: Trump is making his guests incredibly uncomfortable, asking how he stacks up as president against ‘sleepy Joe’ – while he looks like he overdosed on serotonin himself,” the post read.
The account also took issue with the moment Trump appeared to reach toward the woman, writing, “This woman does NOT look comfortable as he reaches over to touch her arm. What a total creep.”
The repeated questioning struck several viewers as an unusual dynamic during a formal White House event. “He speaks like a child seeking validation from an adult,” one person replied. “It’s as though he hasn’t evolved since he was 5 years old,” another added.

The executive order created a commission centered on military spouses, which provided context for the attendees gathered in the Oval Office. However, the video did not identify every person standing behind Trump.
Another critic interpreted the exchange as the president demanding praise before demonstrating results. “He wanted worship before he performed any acts. Interesting,” the person wrote.
4A second clip from the event also circulated after Trump appeared to stumble over a word while discussing Iran. “A drowsy- sounding Donald Trump is stumbling over words and making NO sense at today’s Executive Order signing in the White House,” an X user wrote.
The post quoted Trump as saying, “We have a ‘CONTRAFLICT’ with Iran, and it’s working out very well. Trump’s brain is Swiss Cheese.”
Trump Has Faced Numerous Sexual Misconduct Allegations
4The criticism of Trump touching the attendee’s arm also revived discussion of the sexual misconduct allegations that have followed him for years. Multiple women have accused Trump of sexual assault or inappropriate behavior. Trump has broadly denied allegations of sexual misconduct.
The most consequential case was brought by writer E. Jean Carroll, who alleged that Trump sexually assaulted her inside a Manhattan department store during the 1990s. In May 2023, a civil jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her through statements he made in 2022. The jury awarded her $5 million in damages, and the Second Circuit later upheld that judgment.
A separate jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million in January 2024 after finding that Trump’s earlier statements about her were defamatory.
