Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has rewarded the state’s victorious students with ₦5 million each following their triumph at the 2026 International Debate Championship in Rwanda.
The governor hosted the champions at a dinner in the Government House Banquet Hall, Jalingo, where he hailed their achievement as a monumental honour for both Taraba and Nigeria.
The cash prizes were presented on the governor’s behalf by Hon. Christiana Binga, Executive Chairperson of the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), at the board’s headquarters in Jalingo. The ceremony was attended by TSUBEB board members, directors, and the UBEC State Coordinator.
Governor Kefas described the reward as part of his administration’s unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence and empowering young Tarabans to excel on global stages.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Heman Shawulu expressed gratitude to the governor for enabling their participation in the competition and commended Hon. Binga for her steadfast encouragement. He affirmed that the financial boost would advance their education and inspire them to reach even greater heights.
Shawulu also urged students across the state to remain disciplined, embrace learning, and pursue their academic ambitions with diligence.
The students’ remarkable feat underscores Taraba’s rising prominence in international academic contests and the government’s sustained investment in educational excellence.
