The Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate, Rufai Hanga, has resigned from the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 general election.
Hanga, in an announcing letter, held that following a careful reflection and consideration, he has made the decision to quit the ADC, explaining that he was stepping away from the party to pursue other personal commitments and career paths.
The resignation was conveyed in a letter dated August 3, 2026, addressed to the NDC Ward Chairman in Dakata Ward, Kano State, where Hanga formally announced his decision to leave the party takes immediate effect
“After careful reflection and personal deliberation, I have decided to withdraw my membership from the party to pursue other personal commitments and career paths,” Hanga wrote in the circular.
The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to the party’s leadership and members for the support and cooperation he received during his time in the NDC.
He said he remained grateful to the Ward Executive Committee and members of Dakata Ward for the opportunities, fellowship and relationships built through their political activities.
“I cherish the relationships built and the experiences shared during our political activities together,” he stated.
He further disclosed that he had attached his official NDC membership card to the letter and requested that his name be removed from the party’s ward register.
The senator concluded by wishing the party and its members success in their future political activities.
