The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspects over the alleged armed robbery of a mobile phone and accessories dealer in Ogun State, with stolen items valued at about ₦100 million recovered from the suspects.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Force Special Tactical Squad (STS) following a petition by Sanniphil Company to the Inspector-General of Police over the violent attack on its consignment of mobile phones and accessories.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Saturday, the STS commenced a discreet investigation into the case on August 10, 2026, leading to the arrest of the five suspects in Ogun State.
Police preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly attacked a company vehicle conveying mobile phones and accessories from Lagos to Onitsha on August 5, at about 7:00 p.m.
The assailants were alleged to have dispossessed the vehicle of its consignment, estimated at ₦100 million, before fleeing the scene.
The arrested suspects were identified as Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.
Police said 81 brand-new smartphones and 196 chargers were recovered from the suspects and registered as exhibits in the ongoing investigation.
The Force said efforts were already underway to track down other members of the alleged robbery gang who remained at large and recover the outstanding stolen property.
The arrest followed the intervention of the STS after the affected company formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, prompting investigators to commence a covert operation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the robbery.
The police said the investigation would continue until all those allegedly involved in the operation were apprehended and the remaining stolen goods recovered.
The Force also assured businesses and members of the public of its determination to confront violent crime and protect commercial activities across the country.
It reiterated its commitment to investigating reports of robbery and other criminal activities while ensuring that suspects are subjected to due process under the law.
