The Ogun Police Command has killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted truck driver during an intelligence-led operation, recovering two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and N2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The operation was carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following the abduction of the professional truck driver on August 25, 2026, at about 11:10 p.m. in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.
In a statement released by the Command spokesperson, Opeyemi Oluborode, on Sunday, Police said the victim was safely rescued after operatives launched a coordinated operation to track down members of the kidnapping gang and secure his freedom.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit stormed the suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road, where a gun battle reportedly ensued.
During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries, the police said.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones and N2 million cash, which police said was reasonably suspected to be part of the proceeds of criminal activities.
The bodies of the two suspects have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the gallantry, professionalism and operational effectiveness of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Ojajuni said the successful operation further demonstrated the effectiveness of the intelligence-driven and proactive policing strategies being deployed by the Command to protect residents and maintain security across the state.
He vowed that the police would continue to pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals wherever they might be hiding.
The police commissioner also declared that Ogun State would remain a hostile environment for criminal elements, assuring residents that the Command would sustain intelligence-led policing, robust tactical operations and strategic partnerships with communities to safeguard lives and property.
He urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and provide timely, useful and credible information to security agencies, particularly information about persons seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
According to him, such information could assist the police in ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and rid the state of criminal activities.
