The Police have arrested three men accused of contrevening stipulated laws by indulging in an offence of drug trafficking in Bauchi State.
The alleged drug peddlers identified as Umar Rabiu, also known as Sarka, 22; Auwalu Muhammad, 25; and Umar Akilu, 25, were nabbed during a renewed crackdown on illicit drug trafficking, recovering thousands of suspected narcotic substances which were found on their possession, with cash believed to be proceeds of illegal drug sales, while police said the operation underscored the command’s resolve to curb drug-related crimes and improve public safety.
The Jigawa state police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Adam, revealed the details of the arrest in a press release on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the suspects who were arrested yesterday are from Unguwar Gamji, Gusau Quarters and Kuka village in Jigawa State.
Adam said intelligence-led raids carried out by operatives resulted in the recovery of 5,676 pieces of assorted suspected illicit drugs.
The recovered items include Exol Tramadol, Diazepam, Pregabalin, rubber solution, Lara capsules, codeine syrup, “Suck and Die,” and Indian hemp.
Adam added that officers also recovered N93,626, which investigators believe was generated from the suspects’ alleged drug trafficking activities.
“The operation forms part of the command’s ongoing crackdown on the sale, distribution and abuse of illicit substances,” the police spokesman said.
Furthermore, he said the raids reflected the command’s sustained commitment to combating drug-related offences.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, CP Haruna Yahaya, praised the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance and dedication.
Yahaya noted that the successful operation disrupted the activities of suspected drug traffickers operating within the state.
Moreover, he warned those involved in the sale, distribution or consumption of prohibited drugs to abandon such activities or face the full weight of the law.
“The abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotic substances remain major drivers of violent crimes and other social vices, especially among young people.
“The command will continue to intensify intelligence-led operations to dismantle drug networks and bring offenders to justice,” the commissioner said.
