The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Chima Ogumba, suspected of involvement in armed robbery and recovered a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during an intelligence-led operation in the state.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation was conducted on Monday along Nkpor Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The police said operatives stormed the identified area and searched Ogumba, leading to the recovery of the pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges.
According to the command, the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the firearm and ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, directed that the suspect be thoroughly investigated to establish his possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities.
The police boss also ordered investigators to determine the source and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, targeted patrols and sustained tactical interventions to identify, disrupt and dismantle criminal networks across the state.
