Police arrests 22 suspects over communal clash in Benue

The Benue Police Command has arrested 22 suspects in connection with a communal clash in Benue State following a swift intervention by police operatives and tactical teams that restored calm in the affected area.

The police said the intervention brought the situation under control, with normalcy restored and no fatalities recorded.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed the arrest on Friday while highlighting the operational successes of state police commands across the country.

According to the statement, the clash occurred on Wednesday, prompting the deployment of police and tactical teams to contain the violence, restore law and order and prevent further escalation.

Following the deployment, 22 suspects were arrested in connection with the clash, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Makurdi, commenced an investigation into the incident.

The police said the investigation would determine the circumstances surrounding the clash and establish the roles of those arrested.

The Force Headquarters reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with due process.
