The National Youth Service Corps has announced that prospective corps members must obtain clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database before they can be mobilised for the mandatory one-year national service.
According to the NYSC, the NERD clearance has become a compulsory requirement for mobilisation, warning that eligible graduates who fail to complete the process will not be deployed for national service.
The scheme disclosed this in a public notice issued on Monday via its official X handle as preparations gather momentum for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
It further stressed the mandatory nature of the requirement, saying, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Although the scheme did not provide details of the clearance procedure, the directive is expected to strengthen the verification process for prospective corps members and improve the credibility of mobilisation exercises.
The latest advisory comes shortly after the NYSC commenced preparations for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all registration and documentation processes ahead of the orientation exercise.
The development also follows the scheme’s recent safety advisory cautioning prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night.
The NYSC advised prospective corps members to suspend their journeys where necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and security formations instead of travelling after dark.
The scheme said the measures are part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the integrity of the mobilisation process while ensuring the safety and welfare of prospective corps members throughout the service year.
