The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), FCT chapter Monday said it has taken note of the publication circulating in both traditional and social media alleging an impending mass protest by workers of Kwali Area Council over the purported illegal retention of a retired Director of Finance and other related issues.
In a press release signed and made available by the chairman of NULGE, Abuja chapter, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Kabi, stated that it is committed to the strict observance of the Public Service Rules and the principles of fairness, equity, transparency, and accountability in the administration of the area councils.
The statement reads: “Where there is credible evidence of any breach of the rules or injustice against any worker, NULGE will not hesitate to take all lawful and appropriate steps to protect the interests of its members.
“As the recognised union representing the interests and welfare of local government workers in the FCT, NULGE, it has not authorised or announced any mass protest in Kwali Area Council in relation to the issues reported in the publication.
“Any industrial action by NULGE follows established procedures, including consultation with members, engagement with the relevant authorities, and compliance with extant labour laws.
“While NULGE remains committed to defending the rights and welfare of its members, it also believes that allegations relating to the implementation of the Public Service Rules, retirement, appointments, or any other administrative matters should be subjected to due investigation by the appropriate authorities. Such issues should be addressed through lawful and institutional mechanisms rather than speculation or media trial,” the union said.
