The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has deployed 10,000 of its personnel to ensure peaceful conduct in Osun State during its impending governorship election.
The NSCDC said that it shortlisted the officers from 10 states of the country to all 30 local governments in the state ahead of the poll, also directing the deployment of its specialised unit, Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, Specialised Female Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Strike Force, Crack Squad and K9 Unit tomtjhe areas, urging all elections stakeholders and inhabitants to imbube proper acts during the election.
The body’s spokesperson, Ahmed Audi, stated that the individuals who also consist of undercover officers, were drawn from Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Kogi, Edo, Delta and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, with about 1,000 from each command.
The National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, on Monday, said that the individuals would support each other in intelligence gathering, crime prevention, protection of critical assets, crowd control and other election negatives.
The NSCDC warned political thugs and others who might attempt to disrupt the August 15 election, cautioning that such activities would not be tolerated. It added that it would not tolerate any activity intended to jeopardise the election process; criminal-minded persons and political thugs willing to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election would face the wrath of the law as prescribed in the Electoral Act.
