Niger resumes gratuity payment to state, LG retirees

The Niger State Government has resumed the payment of gratuities to State and Local Government retirees as part of efforts to clear outstanding pension liabilities and improve the welfare of retired public servants.

The government said the exercise underscores Governor Mohammed Bago’s commitment to ensuring that retirees receive their entitlements while sustaining prompt payment of monthly pensions and gradually settling accumulated gratuity arrears.

In a statement issued yesterday by the Director of Information and Orientation, Yunusa Ibrahim, the government disclosed that gratuities have been paid up to Batch 11 for State Government retirees, while payment for Batch 12 will commence on Monday, August 10, 2026. Eligible beneficiaries have been directed to collect their cheques at the Niger State Pension Board Headquarters in Minna.

The statement added that payment of Batch 3 gratuities for Local Government retirees would also resume simultaneously at designated centres in Kontagora, Bida
and Minna.

According to the government, the list of beneficiaries will be displayed at the headquarters of the Niger State Pension Board from Friday, August 7, 2026, to enable retirees verify their names ahead of the payment exercise.

It noted that the Bago administration remains committed to fulfilling its obligations to retirees through consistent pension payments and the gradual clearance of outstanding gratuities.

The statement also said the Ministry of Information and Orientation would continue to keep residents informed about government policies and programmes to promote transparency and effective communication.

The government commended the Director-General of the Niger State Pension Board, Alhaji Nasiru Saidu Namaska, alongside the board’s management and staff, for ensuring a transparent and seamless payment process.

It further appreciated retirees for their patience and understanding and urged beneficiaries to cooperate with the Niger State Pension Board to ensure a smooth and hitch-free payment exercise.
