United recover after early setback
Atletico Madrid made the brighter start and took the lead after just five minutes through Arnau Ortiz. The forward curled a precise effort beyond the Manchester United defence and into the corner to give the Spanish side an early advantage.
United responded positively and came close to levelling before halftime, with Amad Diallo seeing his deflected free-kick brilliantly kept out by goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
The Premier League side continued to push for an equaliser but went into the interval trailing by a single goal.
Mbeumo inspires comeback
The game shifted after the break as Atletico introduced several substitutions, allowing Manchester United to gain greater control of the contest.
United were awarded a penalty after youngster Shea Lacey was brought down inside the area, and Mbeumo calmly converted from the spot to restore parity.
The Cameroon international completed the turnaround soon afterwards when Jack Fletcher intercepted a defensive error before setting him up for a simple finish from close range.
The two goals proved enough to seal a 2-1 victory for Manchester United, who lifted the Snapdragon Cup after the final whistle.
