Kwara State has recorded the highest pass rate in Northern Nigeria in the recently concluded Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) for teachers, with 93.8 per cent of candidates passing the examination.
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) said the performance reflected the quality of teachers being developed under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, TRCN Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr Ronke Soyombo, disclosed this in a congratulatory letter addressed to Governor AbdulRazaq.
She said 678 candidates from the state registered for the examination, 616 sat for it, while 578 passed, representing a 93.8 per cent success rate.
Reacting to the recognition, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, described the result as an independent validation of the government’s investment in education and teacher development.
Olohungbebe attributed the performance to the administration’s standardised and merit-based teacher recruitment process, which he said ensures that only qualified and competent professionals are engaged to teach in public schools.
He congratulated the successful teachers and commended their commitment to improving teaching and learning across the state.
The commissioner said the government’s continued investment in teacher training and education reforms had strengthened classroom instruction and improved learning outcomes in Kwara.
He also welcomed the TRCN’s readiness to partner with the state to address identified gaps in mathematics through targeted professional development programmes for teachers.
Olohungbebe reaffirmed the AbdulRazaq administration’s commitment to policies that promote excellence and professionalism in the education sector in line with global best practices.
