Dantani Aruba, a participant in the Kano State Government’s subsidised mass wedding initiative, has publicly celebrated his recent marriage to an additional wife through the programme.
Speaking during Saturday’s mass wedding ceremony, Aruba expressed gratification at expanding his family whilst avoiding the customary financial burdens associated with matrimony.
Footage captured during the event and circulating on social media shows Aruba indicating his new marital status, noting that he now maintains three wives thanks to the government-supported intervention.
Aruba was amongst beneficiaries united in matrimony during the state-sponsored ceremony, part of a broader governmental initiative designed to support individuals lacking the financial capacity to cover marriage-related expenses.
The Kano State Government, under Governor Abba Yusuf, sponsored matrimony for 1,500 couples at a cost of ₦1.5 billion.
The Kano State Hisbah Board coordinates the programme, which targets low-income populations including widows, widowers, divorcees, unmarried women and men seeking spousal partnership.
Participants receive comprehensive support encompassing dowry payment, household furnishings, food provisions and supplementary materials facilitating home establishment.
Known locally as Auren Gata, the initiative commenced in Kano during 2012 under former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, when 100 couples, predominantly widows and divorcees, were united at the gubernatorial palace.
