Kano Hisbah has arrested popular TikTok content creator, Namadina Tudunwada, over allegations that he promoted fornication through content shared on his social media platform.
The religious enforcement agency arrested the accused claiming that he published a video that allegedly encouraged young people to view fornication as a cheaper and more attractive alternative to marriage, saying the content could mislead youths and undermine moral values.
According to the Board, the controversial video featured Namadina comparing the financial cost of marriage with that of illicit sexual relations.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued by the Deputy Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Mujahid Aminuddeen, on Monday stating that the operatives of the Hisbah command in Tudunwada Local Government Area apprehended Namadina after the video gained widespread circulation on social media.
In the video, Namadina claimed that engaging in fornication could cost about ₦2,000, while getting married might require as much as ₦200,000.
Hisbah said the comparison amounted to promoting immoral behaviour and could discourage young people from embracing marriage.
“The suspect was arrested after making statements capable of misleading young people and promoting immoral behaviour,” the Board said.
Furthermore, Aminuddeen said the agency would thoroughly investigate the matter before taking further legal steps.
“We will expand our investigation and take the appropriate action in accordance with the law,” Aminuddeen said.
The board also issued a warning to social media influencers and digital content creators, urging them to exercise responsibility in the materials they publish online.
It stressed that content shared on social media carries consequences and should be guided by moral and religious responsibility,
Aminuddeen added that posts capable of encouraging immorality or violating societal values would attract the attention of law enforcement authorities.
